Watches that not only measure time but also tell a story of sophistication and style

passion for precision

Our history

Lulled by the clicking of timepieces since my earliest childhood, I was born in the Franche-Comté region, a bastion of French watchmaking located on the edge of Switzerland.
Over time, I was enchanted by the sweet melody of the “tic-tac” played by the harmonious movement of several hundred elements.

In this project of creating my own watch brand, I wanted to promote this exceptional know-how and give it a new dynamic. My passion for words and literature then invited itself into my thinking, and I chose to wrap watchmaking craftsmanship in poetry.

It is the association of time and the poetry of words that gave birth to the Buci universe. A unique encounter between watchmaking and poetry, located at the crossroads of my passions.

Beginning

Buci was born with an online crowdfunding campaign . It is thanks to the 106 contributors who participated in the launch campaign on April 6, 2022 that the production of the 300 numbered Buci watches was launched.

Inspirations

Buci corresponds to the eponymous street in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district located in the sixth arrondissement of Paris.

Towards the middle of the 19th century, this district became a meeting place for the greatest artists. Great names of French culture were recorded there: Marguerite Duras, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. Great writers such as Racine, Balzac, George Sand, painters such as Delacroix or Manet, filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard and Bernard Quentin, frequented it and the district became a true center of the literary and artistic world.

This abundance of artists has helped promote and expand the neighbourhood. Large publishing houses, including Gallimard, Le Seuil and Grasset, also made it their headquarters. During the 20th century, large literary cafés appeared: the Deux Magots, the Flore and Lipp. Philosophers, artists, actors and musicians liked to mingle there and can still be seen in the small establishments of the neighbourhood. When the theatre appeared and developed, this again led to the arrivals of Samuel Becket, Jean Cocteau, Picasso, Charles Aznavour and many others.

Design

The first collection of Made in France BUCI automatic watches is the result of three years of research and development.

From the blank sheet of paper, to the technical plans and the first prototypes, hundreds of hours of work and kilometers traveled were necessary to give it body and life.

Buci watches were born in Paris and were developed between Franche-Comté and the Swiss Jura with watchmaking experts.

The first “Garde-temps” collection is co-created with artists participating in our first Time Poetry Competition.
Congratulations to Léa Chamonal and Hager Charni, winners of our competition who designed the Éternité and Amour bracelets.

Poetic watchmaking

BUCI was born from the encounter between watchmaking and poetry.
Each BUCI watch is accompanied by a poetic message engraved on its interchangeable strap.
This inaugural edition is limited to 300 French automatic watches.

French know-how

All Buci watch straps are made of leather, handmade in the cradle of French watchmaking. They are easily interchangeable.
Our leathers are selected with the greatest care and are subjected to numerous tests to guarantee optimum quality.

Moving along its poetic dial to the rhythm of your movements, the Feuilles de sauge hands of Buci watches remind you that it is time to dive into a poem and suspend time. They are manufactured in the last French needle manufacturing plant.

The heart of Buci watches beats to the rhythm of the Newton automatic movement which is entirely manufactured between the French Jura and the Swiss Jura by the Soprod Manufacture.

The assembly and testing of each of our poetic Buci watches is carried out in our partner workshop in Mulhouse.
